Family Memories Heritage Layout

We had another storm come through here around 4:00-4:30 this morning with high winds. Woke us all up again. So needless to say I am tired. A lot of people were without power today but luckily, we weren't one of them, thank goodness. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those people down South who lost their homes and loved ones due to the tornadoes that swept through more than several southern states yesterday.

Heritage Layout #3

We had a storm come through here the night before last with 80 m.p.h. winds. Woke the whole house up around 4:00 a.m. So needless to say I was too tired to do any scrapbooking yesterday. Luckily, our yard was spared any damage but the one neighbor had a big branch come down in their yard and another neighbor lost a tree. We weren't supposed to get winds that high so it was totally unexpected to say the least.

Anyway, I scrapbooked another page for the heritage album earlier this evening. This one's of my mother-in-law when she was in fourth grade. Taken circa 1946-1947...

Another Heritage Layout

I just finished up another heritage layout this evening. This is a layout of my husband's grandfather. He was the 2nd child born out of a family of seven children. He came to the United States (Ellis Island) on a ship from Italy when he was only 10 years old back in 1913. And passed away about 20 years before my husband was even born, so he never knew him. My mother-in-law was only 9 years old when her dad passed away. He was a steel mill worker and  a two-pack-a-day Camel cigarettes smoker (back before they knew that cigarettes are bad for you) and died of bladder cancer back in the mid-40's. He was even holding a cigarette in these photos. My mother-in-law is a retired nurse and when she worked for one of the doctors way back when, one of their patients brought in a couple pictures of her dad to give to her. These are some of the very few pictures that she has of her dad. So we don't know who the lady in the photo is except that she was a friend. Again, lots of distressing on this one too...

Well tomorrow's the last day of school for the kids before spring break. This is the first year they'll actually be getting a full spring break in nine years since they've always had to make up snow days. If I'm not back on here before then, I hope you all have a very Happy Easter! :)

First Heritage Layout

I hope you all are having a great weekend! It rained a good bit yesterday and today it's really windy and we're under a wind advisory until 8:00 tonight (45 mph winds). I started scrapbooking my mother-in-law's heritage photos yesterday afternoon... a picture of her mom. I was about 1/4 of the way done when my husband called and said we were all going out to lunch in the city at a place he likes to get cheese steaks from. So we ate there (the food was awesome). Then we went to the Imax theater to watch Tornado Alley on a huge dome-shaped screen. Very cool.

B. went to church with her grandmother (my MIL) since it's Palm Sunday and is spending the day with her. Or so I thought. Apparently she had to leave church early to go into the city and B. ended up spending the day with her Grandad instead and they had lunch at Arby's after church. Then B. played with her cousin all afternoon. So it was a good time to get some scrapbooking done. I just finished up the first layout for my mother-in-law's heritage album that I'm making for her. I'm not scrapbooking these photos in any particular order. This is a picture of my husband's grandmother standing by her garden taken circa July 1959. She passed away when my husband was only nine...

 

 
I did a lot of inking, distressing and a little bit of stitching and had a lot of fun with it.

Bookplate was made with the Sizzix Tim Holtz "Tags & Bookplates" steel-rule die, medium-weight chipboard, and my Big Shot - love this die - it makes a #8 sized shipping tag, an oval-shaped bookplate, and a rectangular bookplate. And the bookplates are embossed. I know I'll be using this die a lot and am glad I was able to get it on sale 50% off from the Sizzix website during one of their sales.
Tim Holtz old paper crackle paint - used to paint the bookplate. I absolutely love how this came out. I put it on really thick, let it sit overnight and it crackled really nicely. Love the effect it gave. Now I'm hooked and I want more colors of distress crackle paint. lol! This stuff is so cool.

Glossy Accents by Ranger - for adhering the chipboard bookplate onto the layout. This is like the best glue for adhering heavy things onto layouts like buttons, chipboard, metal embellishments, etc. I can't scrapbook without it.
Scotch foam adhesive - for wings of butterfly to pop them up and give them some dimension.

Hot Cocoa Scrapbook Layout

Happy Friday Everyone!

I started this layout back in February and put it aside to make that baby mini album. I usually never let a scrapbook project sit this long since I always finish them up right away. But I got a little burned out on scrapbooking after that mini album and needed a break for awhile. I wanted to get this finished up since I'm moving on to scrapbooking some family heritage photos for my mother-in-law. I just got them the other day and spent a couple hours scanning, editing, enlarging, and printing them out this morning. Now I'm ready to go. I also picked up the Tattered Time DCWV stack today at JoAnn's. I just discovered it the other day when I was there and decided to go back and get it. I love this stack and it will be perfect for scrapbooking heritage photos with. It has a lot clock gears, typewriters, tickets, vintage radios, etc. etc. in it. I just love it....

A lot of other people must be lovin' it too since I snagged the very last one of these  stacks that they had left. So between this one, DCWV Mainstreet and the Bo Bunny Timepiece collection, I have plenty of patterned papers to work from. Hey, I like to have choices. lol!

Without further ado, here's my recent scrapbook layout finish...

I used a sketch from the most recent sketch book (#7) from Scrapbook Generation that I got back in January. Patterned papers are by Imaginisce. Papers and photos were inked with Fired Brick Distress Ink from Tim Holtz. Border punches used were by Fiskars - apron lace and scallop sentiment. Snowflakes were made with the Arctic Snowflake Martha Stewart punch. I used both the positive and negative punched images. The title was made with my Cricut using the Winter Woodland cartridge. And the mug and snowman are from Christmas Cheer. The journaling block was made using a new Ali Edwards journaling stamp and Jenni Bowlin brown dye ink. I wrapped some cotton baker's twine around my journaling block that I just got in the mail yesterday from The Twinery. I decided to jump on the baker's twine bandwagon and give it a try since I love the look of it. I love this stuff. It is soooo pretty. It adds just the perfect touch to a layout or card. And I love that you can also stitch with it using a large-eyed needle. I got the big sampler pack so I could have 15 yards of each of the 11 colors of cotton baker's twine that The Twinery offers. They also sell each of these colors in large 240 yard spools. I thought 15 yards of each was all I "needed" and it gives me plenty to  play work with for awhile...
