Time for a Change....
Happy first day of Spring! :) Well you wouldn't know it's spring here since it's freezin' cold out and only 36 degrees. And tomorrow's supposed to be even colder. brrrr...
Anyway, this is just a quick post for me to pop in and let you all know that I'm still alive. lol! All is good in my neck of the woods (overall). I've become rather health conscious these past couple of months since finding out that I have high blood pressure the end of January and had to start taking medicine for it. I made some diet changes and have been watching my calories, sodium, fat, sugar and all that. I eat a lot of whole grains, fiber, greek yogurt, fruits and vegetables now and I joined a gym back in February thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law, K., introducing me to the one she goes to. I didn't think I could afford to join a gym, but this one turned out to be rather affordable and they offer zumba, spinning and aerobics classes that's all included in my monthly fee of only $21. I love it there. I go about 4-5 times a week and do at least 45 minutes of cardio (sometimes an hour) and the weight machines 1-2 times a week (in addition to the cardio on those days). Sometimes I meet up with my sister-in-law at the gym on the weekends. It's nice to keep each other motivated. So far I've lost 20 lbs in the past 8 weeks!
My workout summary from the elliptical machine the other day...
After that machine, I go to the LifeCycle and continue my cardio workout. Sometimes I do the treadmill instead of the elliptical too.
I have 50 lbs. to go to reach a healthy weight but I'd like to lose more like 60. So I'm spending less time on the computer and more time being active, exercising, etc. I go back to the doctor next week and I'm sure she'll be happy to see that I've made a big change and am losing weight now. And since I'm eating healthier, that means that I'm trying my best to cook healthier dinners for me and my family. Whole grain pasta and brown rice instead of regular. I use fat free or low fat everything in my recipes, and low sodium when I can. I switched to skim milk instead of 2%. No sugar in my coffee anymore or on my cereal. I think all of these small changes are making a huge difference. Nothing like the doctor telling you that you could have a heart attack in ten years if you don't do something now to put a fire under your butt to make a change.
Well, it's time to get off of here and head to the gym today.
'til next time....
