Heritage Layout #11

Happy Thursday Everyone! :)

The weather here has been beautiful and so B. and I have been spending most of the day outside these past couple of weeks. Well except on the day it rained of course. She's doing very well with her swimming lessons and so I signed her up for four more weeks. She completed Level II this week and got her certificate today and will be starting Level III and will be going in the deep water next week. They'll learn how to tread water and then eventually how to actually swim. She loves it and looks forward to going. I'm so proud of her and how far she's come.

I managed to create a layout last night for the heritage album. This will be my last multi-photo layout for this album. All the rest will be one-photo layouts (not my favorite type to do as I said before). This one's of my husband's Great-Uncle Phil (in all 3 photos). He was my husband's grandfather's younger brother and the 5th child born out of seven children. He's also pictured with his sister (my husband's great-aunt) Margaret in the first photo. Margaret was the youngest out of the seven children in the family. Great-Uncle Phil is also pictured with my husband's Uncle Leo in the third photo. The first two photos were taken during WWII - circa 1943-44. And the last one is from 1947......

Doily stamps are from the My Mind's Eye Stella Rose Gertie "Girly" Stamps set. I stamped them and then punched them out with different sizes of circle punches. Got this idea from Nichol Magourik and had to give it a try myself. Love the results. I pop-dotted a couple of them up for some dimension.

And that's it. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish this album before the family reunion the end of July. It's getting hard to find time for scrapbooking during the summer though. But I'll try my best.

I also have a small scrappy haul to share. I've been wanting to get some of the Ali Edwards stamp sets for a long time now and so I got some of those fairly recently. I stamp on a good majority of my layouts and so these will all get put to good use. I also got the Lawn Fawn Say Cheese Too set since I already have Say Cheese (with the cute polaroid stamps). I got it several months ago to use with my 2-1/2" square punch which works perfectly with the polaroid picture stamp...

 
Say Cheese Too is really nice for adding dates and different phrases. I love the script font on that one (pictured below). The December Daily set was one that's a limited edition set. It sold out around Christmas and I missed out on it then. But they (Technique Tuesday) got just a few sets in recently and so I snatched one up before they sell out for good. I love how this set can be used for so much more than for just Christmas. In fact, I used it on the layout I just posted today. Plus I like the idea of making a mini album to record the different things our family does during the Christmas season and would like to give that a try sometime.....

Joann.com was having a free shipping deal last weekend for 2 days only, plus they had a few of the punches on sale 40% off that have been on my wishlist for a really long time. I just hate paying shipping and kept putting it off. I figured that was too good of a deal to pass up and so I placed my very first online order with them last weekend. I'm very pleased with their service. It only took 4 days to get here. And where else are you gonna get that kind of a discount + free shipping. I'm sorry I didn't think of ordering from them sooner. I got the McGill file tab punch and a couple circle punches from EK Success - 2-1/4" and 2-3/4"...

Well that's all for now. But before I go, I wanted to mention that I found out that one of the local Wal-Marts will be getting their fabric section back again! They're saying probably in August maybe. So that's good news since Wal-Mart hasn't sold fabric in forever. The bad news is they're clearancing out some of the Cricut stuff (to possibly make room they say). I hope I can still at least get my mats there. Anyhoo, I hope you all have a happy and safe 4th of July this coming weekend. We went to see fireworks last Saturday after B. and I came back from spending the day visiting our cousins. And we're planning on driving up to the city to see the big fireworks & laser show they put on on the 4th. It's one of the best ones in the country.

New Scrappy Goodies, etc.

I haven't been on here in the past week and a half because I haven't had anything crafty to show you all. Been busy doing other things this past week. I spent three days planting flowers last weekend in the front flower beds. I planted more than a few of my favorites - wave petunias, along with some colorful zinnias and more than several perennials like delphiniums. One of the delphiniums actually looks blue! I went back to Lowe's to get more and they were sold out. So I got some lighter "blue" and purple ones instead for the other end of the flower beds. They are supposed to attract butterflies and are deer resistant. We shall see. I still need to plant impatiens in flower boxes for the deck and patio below, but that can wait for the time being until I see if I have enough potting soil. It's hard to stay inside and scrapbook when it's so nice outside. Plus B. starts her swimming lessons on Monday and she likes to stay and play at the park for a little while afterwards.  And I need to get this heritage album done in the next month or so before the family reunion. I have 14-15 more layouts I need to do yet. Most all of which are single photo layouts. Not my most favorite type to do. Now is not the time to be losing steam on this album. ugh! I also finally got caught up on getting all my photos developed from the past four months. I was soooo behind. Wal-Mart is having a sale right now on photo processing - .l0 cents per print for 100 or more. Well let's just say I had a lot more. lol! My camera hasn't been working with this particular SD card and my husband says it's probably because it needs reformatted. I hope that's all it is. Can't do that until I copy and delete everything off of it. Now I can do that since I have everything backed up on CD's now. My older SD card only holds 30-50 pics with this "newer" camera, so that gets real old real fast. Plus I need a fresh empty SD card for the coming weeks.

They built a brand new McDonald's within the past couple months here and the grand opening was on Thursday. It's sad to see the old one closed because I've taken B. there various times throughout the years since she was two and she loved playing outside in the play area with the other kids during the warmer months. It's the end of an era. Luckily, I do have some photos that I took of her playing there so I can scrapbook them for her. I promised B. that I'd take her to the new McDonald's and so I surprised her yesterday morning by waking her up early and asking her if she wanted to have breakfast at the new McDonald's. The look on her face was priceless. lol! I don't think she's ever gotten out of bed so fast that early in the morning. lol! The new one is really nice. Everything is in brown tones and it feels like you're in a cafe. Doesn't even feel like you're in a McDonald's. Not to mention that the booth seats are rather comfy. lol! McDonald's is not my thing all the time. But, hey, they were having their grand opening and I figured why not. Then B. and I did a little shopping for girl things for her and other items. I ran my other errands that I needed to do and we were back home by noon. It was a nice Mommy-Daughter morning out. 

I also got back in touch with an old friend and we've been texting. I am not into texting. at. all. My daughter sits there giggling because she knows it's not my favorite thing to do because it takes forever and claims she could do the same text in about 4 seconds that takes me 10 minutes to do. Ahhh the things we do to stay in touch with our friends.Which I've been pretty bad about doing lately. I'm trying to do better though. But, of course, it goes both ways. Life just seems to get in the way, ya know?

Now on to some scrappy goodness...

I got some new scrappy goodies during the past few weeks or so including the WRMK Yankee Doodles collection for patriotic layouts. I've always had the hardest time finding patterned paper for 4th of July layouts and things of that nature around here. So now I have a whole pad of coordinating paper, the matching cardstock and some matching chipboard and embossed stickers to go with it. I also got the Martha Stewart stars border punch awhile back. So I'm set to get working on those 4th of July and Memorial Day pics that I have yet to scrapbook. I also found the motherlode of stamps out at Big Lots recently. Holy Moly it's about dang time they got something good for scrapbooking. I picked up a lot of really nice sets for cheap - just $2 each since I love using stamps for both my regular scrapbooking and for making mini albums. Then today I go into the local piddly little JoAnn Fabrics planning on just checking out the clearance and not really expecting anything exciting and new to actually be there.... When I spotted some Martha Stewart scrappy goodness through the corner of my eye. I haven't been able to buy any Martha Stewart punches, etc. locally since Wal-Mart quit carrying her stuff last year. I have a weakness for her punches. Absolutely love them and use them all. the. time. I asked the clerk to check to see if the MS punches were on sale and they're not and so I was able to use those 50% off coupons that I had that were due to expire after today! I picked up two punches that have been on my wishlist - the Monarch Butterflies Trim punch and the Classic Butterfly punch-all-over-the-page punch. Like I really need another Martha Stewart butterfly punch. lol! I do love and use them all though. This new butterfly one is the same exact butterfly as the smaller version that I have of the regular punch and is so pretty when you layer it with another punched out butterfly from the same punch or with the smaller classic butterfly. Plus you can punch a butterfly anywhere on your page! How cool is that? The punch is actually two parts - one goes under your paper and one above, and it snaps together with really strong magnets.  I will have to practice at getting the butterflies lined up on the page right since this is my first punch of this type. I tried it out and it punches really easy.

And what is a blog post without pictures? Well it would be boring, of course. lol! So even though I don't generally do haul posts (you know, so the evidence isn't out there on the internet - ha!), I thought I'd make an exception this one time. Remember now, this is a collective haul from the past couple of months....

 Here's a couple other border punches I've gotten fairly recently. The scalloped one is supposed to have embossed dots on the scallops, but it doesn't emboss very well. However, I just LOVE the size of these scallops and can't wait to use it on some layouts....

Another one I got on sale at JoAnn's. I thought this one would be fun for summer pages and anything to do with water or bubbles of course...

Then the two punches I picked up earlier today for 50% off each. Love these. The smaller butterfly is from my other classic butterfly punch that I've had for a few years now. Just wanted to show you the difference in size. I also have the 3-in-1 butterfly punch which I've had for a long time. It's yet more sizes of this same beautiful classic butterfly. They look pretty by themselves, or layered...

And a close-up of the pretty Monarch Butterfly trim punch. It's so nice to finally be able to get some of the Martha punches with a coupon for once....

And last, but not least, is part of my stamp haul from Big Lots. That wood-mounted rubber stamp butterfly is HUGE. It's made by Inkadinkado. I played around with it earlier today and it stamps a beautifully detailed butterfly. Love it. I bought it to use with my huge Hero Arts ledger cling stamp for journaling. It's a technique I saw Nichol Magourik do awhile back. Love her videos on YouTube. I've learned so much from her. Of course, she's one of my biggest enablers when it comes to scrappy shopping too. lol! It's because of her that I got into the Jenni Bowlin dye inks, which as you already know, I tend to use a lot and absolutely enjoy using...

I went back after I got these ones but haven't taken pics of the new ones. But you get the idea. Stamps are obviously my other addiction weakness other than punches, Sizzix dies and scrapbook pads and the occasional Cricut cartridge.

Plus I picked up some denim shorts for him earlier this week and B. did a Make 'n Take for Father's Day at JoAnn's earlier this afternoon and she'll be giving that to him as well along with a really sweet homemade card that she made for him telling him the 3 things she's loves about him. She thought that idea up all by herself. We'll be spending the day with family at one of the local amusement parks. Speaking of which, I need to make the pasta salad that I said I'd bring since we're having a picnic there. Hopefully, the weather stays nice...

Good Times Heritage Layout

Happy Wednesday, everyone! We're halfways through the week (yea!). It has been miserably hot and humid today and in the 90's. Needless to say, we've been spending lots of time in the pool and putting it to good use so far this summer.

I finished up another layout for the heritage album earlier this afternoon that I started last night. This one's of my husband's uncle when he was like two. And his grandparents and other uncles at an all-day company picnic held at a local amusement park back during the summer of 1936 or thereabouts  that no longer exists. I wish it was still open, because from what I've researched, it was a really nice park to spend the day with your family, etc. They closed it down after being open for 70+ years when the owner died back in the 1970's. It was bought by the state and now a major highway and bridge take it's place. It's very possible that my husband's grandmother was pregnant with his mom (the youngest of four children) in this photo given the timeframe. The photos came from an old newsletter from the steel mill that my husband's grandfather worked at. It was ripped out and folded. I think the photos that I scanned came out really nice though. And, of course, they are a whole lot larger than the tiny ones in the newsletter....

Simple Moments Heritage Layout

Just a quick post to show you all another heritage layout that I finished up earlier this afternoon. I used my new Zutter Distrezz-it-All on this one too. The more I use it, the more I'm loving it. That thing is LOUD though. lol! It sounds like I'm using power tools in my scraproom. lol!

Remember When Heritage Layout

Heritage Layout #7

Good Morning! The sun's trying to come out from behind all those clouds. It's supposed to be only 75 today, so a bit cooler then what it's been the past several days. It's only 63 out there now and a bit breezy, but a good morning to have all the windows open.

I just wanted to show you real quickly another heritage layout I made last night for my mother-in-law's album. This is a picture of my husband's Great Aunt Liz, his mom and his uncle taken back in the mid-1940's.

Supplies Used:

Patterned Papers - from DCWV Tattered Time stack

Cardstock - DCWV, Worldwin (borders, title)

Cricut Cartridge - Heritage (for the title) - cut at 2" and embossed with the Textile Textures Cuttlebug embossing folder and my Big Shot, then Glimmer Misted with Pearl Glimmer Mist

Prima flower - cut in half, then folded in half, inked with antique linen and vintage photo distress inks and then Glimmer Misted with Pearl Glimmer Mist.
