Completed Heritage Album

Saturday, July 23, 2011 - after midnight....

Well after many months of working on this heritage scrapbook album for my mother-in-law, I have finally finished it today and gave it to her earlier this evening in time for the family reunion. They are expecting 60-70 people and I look so forward to getting to meet all of them. I made 2 lbs. of pasta salad earlier and am finally sitting down to watch a little Hogan's Heroes with my husband before bed.

Here are the last two layouts that I created for the album earlier today. Both layouts use supplies from the Bo Bunny Timepiece Collection. I have to say that not much is left at all from the collection pack, brads, trinkets, etc. that I bought for this project. I used up all but a few scraps of the patterned paper in fact. It's a good thing that I also used papers from the DCWV Tattered Time and Mainstreet stacks as well. There are a total of 25 layouts in this entire album.

This first one's of my mother-in-law, her dad, brother and cousin. Sketch inspiration from the Jana Eubank sketch blog...

And this last one is of my husband's Great-Uncle Tom from 1945. I used another sketch from the Scrapbook Generation sketches book for one page layouts. This was great for using up what little scraps that I had left from the Timepiece collection pack..

I also made an envelope using my Martha Stewart scoreboard and some heavy Bazzill cardstock that I adhered to the inside back cover. Inside are a couple of CDs with the heritage photos that I used for this album in case anyone would want a copy of some of them after the reunion. My mother-in-law can just pop them into her computer and e-mail them to whomever. The envelope is held shut with some velcro...

Thank you for following along with my blog as I created this album these past several months. It's my biggest scrapbook project that I've completed thus far and I really enjoyed it. Good night....

Heritage Layout #16

Happy Sunday Afternoon Everyone! :)

We're enjoying another hot sunny day here today and we may go swimming later on. I'm getting caught up on some housework and taking a break to make some lunch for us. This is going to be a very busy week with B. having both swimming lessons and Vacation Bible School and I'll be trying my best to get this heritage album finished before next weekend for the family reunion.

I wanted to post here quickly the layout I just created last night. This one's of my husband's Great-Aunt Florence. And the branch of the family tree that we will be meeting for the first time next weekend comes from her part of the family. She's also from Italy (just like her brother - (my husband's grandfather) and she married into another Italian family as well. I'm looking so forward to meeting them soon.

 
My mother-in-law wanted me to include a Christmas card that was sent to her family from Aunt Florence back in December 1937. So I made a vellum envelope with the help of my Martha Stewart scoreboard and put it in there to keep it safe and from touching the photo on the layout. The vellum envelope is tucked underneath a lamp post that I cut out on my Cricut using the Heritage cartridge (cut at 10"). Plus I made a couple of notches to also hold the envelope in place with my Making Memories notch tool. I used my craft knife with a glass mat underneath the patterned paper to cut an opening in the doorway to put the picture in. I think it looks kinda cool like that.

Heritage Layout #7

Good Morning! The sun's trying to come out from behind all those clouds. It's supposed to be only 75 today, so a bit cooler then what it's been the past several days. It's only 63 out there now and a bit breezy, but a good morning to have all the windows open.

I just wanted to show you real quickly another heritage layout I made last night for my mother-in-law's album. This is a picture of my husband's Great Aunt Liz, his mom and his uncle taken back in the mid-1940's.

Supplies Used:

Patterned Papers - from DCWV Tattered Time stack

Cardstock - DCWV, Worldwin (borders, title)

Cricut Cartridge - Heritage (for the title) - cut at 2" and embossed with the Textile Textures Cuttlebug embossing folder and my Big Shot, then Glimmer Misted with Pearl Glimmer Mist

Prima flower - cut in half, then folded in half, inked with antique linen and vintage photo distress inks and then Glimmer Misted with Pearl Glimmer Mist.

Family Memories Heritage Layout

We had another storm come through here around 4:00-4:30 this morning with high winds. Woke us all up again. So needless to say I am tired. A lot of people were without power today but luckily, we weren't one of them, thank goodness. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those people down South who lost their homes and loved ones due to the tornadoes that swept through more than several southern states yesterday.

Another Heritage Layout

I just finished up another heritage layout this evening. This is a layout of my husband's grandfather. He was the 2nd child born out of a family of seven children. He came to the United States (Ellis Island) on a ship from Italy when he was only 10 years old back in 1913. And passed away about 20 years before my husband was even born, so he never knew him. My mother-in-law was only 9 years old when her dad passed away. He was a steel mill worker and  a two-pack-a-day Camel cigarettes smoker (back before they knew that cigarettes are bad for you) and died of bladder cancer back in the mid-40's. He was even holding a cigarette in these photos. My mother-in-law is a retired nurse and when she worked for one of the doctors way back when, one of their patients brought in a couple pictures of her dad to give to her. These are some of the very few pictures that she has of her dad. So we don't know who the lady in the photo is except that she was a friend. Again, lots of distressing on this one too...

Well tomorrow's the last day of school for the kids before spring break. This is the first year they'll actually be getting a full spring break in nine years since they've always had to make up snow days. If I'm not back on here before then, I hope you all have a very Happy Easter! :)

First Heritage Layout

I hope you all are having a great weekend! It rained a good bit yesterday and today it's really windy and we're under a wind advisory until 8:00 tonight (45 mph winds). I started scrapbooking my mother-in-law's heritage photos yesterday afternoon... a picture of her mom. I was about 1/4 of the way done when my husband called and said we were all going out to lunch in the city at a place he likes to get cheese steaks from. So we ate there (the food was awesome). Then we went to the Imax theater to watch Tornado Alley on a huge dome-shaped screen. Very cool.

B. went to church with her grandmother (my MIL) since it's Palm Sunday and is spending the day with her. Or so I thought. Apparently she had to leave church early to go into the city and B. ended up spending the day with her Grandad instead and they had lunch at Arby's after church. Then B. played with her cousin all afternoon. So it was a good time to get some scrapbooking done. I just finished up the first layout for my mother-in-law's heritage album that I'm making for her. I'm not scrapbooking these photos in any particular order. This is a picture of my husband's grandmother standing by her garden taken circa July 1959. She passed away when my husband was only nine...

 

 
I did a lot of inking, distressing and a little bit of stitching and had a lot of fun with it.

Bookplate was made with the Sizzix Tim Holtz "Tags & Bookplates" steel-rule die, medium-weight chipboard, and my Big Shot - love this die - it makes a #8 sized shipping tag, an oval-shaped bookplate, and a rectangular bookplate. And the bookplates are embossed. I know I'll be using this die a lot and am glad I was able to get it on sale 50% off from the Sizzix website during one of their sales.
Tim Holtz old paper crackle paint - used to paint the bookplate. I absolutely love how this came out. I put it on really thick, let it sit overnight and it crackled really nicely. Love the effect it gave. Now I'm hooked and I want more colors of distress crackle paint. lol! This stuff is so cool.

Scotch foam adhesive - for wings of butterfly to pop them up and give them some dimension.
