Getting Acquainted With My New Camera

Well I don't know who is more in love with the new camera - my husband or me. lol! He's never been interested in taking photos before we got this camera. It's fun learning how to use it together and we got some really cool shots this afternoon....

Love how it zooms in on something far away with the 55-250 mm lens. And I'm especially loving the macro lens that came as part of the "kit" for close-ups of small things. And what's really cool are the things that I would normally overlook in nature that the camera captures in vivid detail.

Gotta get back to cooking our dinner. I'm making stuffed shells & a tossed salad tonight. :)

Thanks for stoppin' by...

It's a 'Burgh Thing

Well it's back-to-school week here. The first day of school was yesterday.  B. got the teacher that she wanted and is really happy about that. I took her to get her hair cut two days before school started and surprised her by letting her get a feather in her hair since she had been asking for one. The salon I took B. to didn't have any long skinny soft ones, so she ended up picking out a bright blue one that was skinny but kinda stiff. It looked really cute. But it only stayed in her hair for four days before it fell out today. Oh well. I need to think up a gimmick like that. Last year Silly Bandz were all the rage, now it's these darn feathers.lol!

So did any of you feel the earthquake the other day? I was busy cleaning my house - scrubbing floors, vacuuming, etc. when it happened. So if the earth moved here, I didn't feel it. But it was felt downtown here  and in the surrounding areas. Scary stuff. I remember feeling an earthquake here though back in the mid-1980's - 1986 maybe? when I was a teenager when the whole house shook one day in the middle of the afternoon. I didn't realize that it was an earthquake until later though. But this recent one that happened the other day I didn't feel. I'd much rather have a storm coming our way than an earthquake, because at least you know it's coming and you can prepare for it. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts & prayers who live down in NC, VA, and along the northern part of the eastern coast. I hope Hurricane Irene doesn't do the damage that they are anticipating this coming weekend. I hope you all stay safe.

My wonderful husband surprised me this week by ordering a really nice digital-SLR camera off E-Bay. He got a nice bundle deal. I am sooooo super excited!!! I wanted a camera that took better pictures, but I would never ask for one. But somehow he just knew. Love that man. I've never had anything this nice to take pictures with ever. It arrived this morning and we've been playing around with it some. My very first DSLR camera and I have a lot to learn....

Anyway, lot's going on this week here. A. is up here visiting this week from SC. We all went out to eat earlier this evening at one of our favorite places  - Primanti's. Love love love their Pitts-Burger cheese steak as pictured on the front of the menu - especially love the coleslaw & french fries they put on the sandwich. Other restaurants try to imitate it, but no one makes it as good as Primanti's does. Yum!...

It just so happened to be Kahuna Balloona night tonight at Primanti's, and so this very talented young man created a dolphin for B. and a daisy for me. We had gotten there early, so by the time we left, those empty tables were all full and more people were coming in for dinner...

Afterwards, we took a drive into downtown Pittsburgh. We saw there was something going on at Heinz Field so we went to check it out. It just so happened that the Pittsburgh Panthers were having Pitt Fan Fest 2011 there and they had opened up Heinz Field for everyone and admission was free. :) The first time we had been there was just last month for the huge 4th of July fireworks display Pittsburgh puts on. We got to watch them from the rotundra at Heinz Field and they were absolutely phenomenal. No other fireworks around here can compare. The rotundra wasn't open today, but we were able to see everything else there.  This was A.'s first time getting to see Heinz Field and she was so excited to be there. I believe that it made her day in fact. lol! And being the huge Steelers fans that we are, we were all in awe of just being there and seeing all their trophies and other memorabilia a second time around. I would absolutely love to watch a Steelers game at Heinz Field. That would be so awesome.....

Today was a good day for sure....
