Flat Stanley Adventures Layout

Oh my is it HOT out there! It has been in the 90's the last couple of days and it sure feels like summer. We went swimming in our pool for the first time this year yesterday on Memorial Day. And the water's 86 degrees today. We just filled it back up to get it ready for summer on Thursday. I wasn't expecting to be able to swim in it that quick.

Anyhoo, I've been working on another layout for B's album(s) that I started yesterday and just finished up today. It's of her Flat Stanley's adventures with her sister down in Charleston, SC. This was a project that B's teacher had the class do at the beginning of  this year. A. did a super fabulous job with it and took pics of her and Flat B. all over Charleston, plus she sent her lots of pics (more than what's on this layout actually), and brochures from different tourist spots in that area. A. had moved and didn't get the Flat Stanley until months after the school sent it to her when her old room mate finally brought it to her at work. We were all happy when it finally arrived a week before school let out for the summer. B. was  super excited and so happy when it arrived. And her Daddy and I are so appreciative that A. did such a great job of putting it together for B.

A day like today sure makes me wish I could actually be at the beach. But scrapbooking it is the next best thing. Right? lol!

The title area flips up to reveal a copy of the letter that A. sent telling of all the wonderful adventures that she and Flat B. had in Charleston. It stays closed with the help of some Basic Grey thin magnetic discs that are hidden between the cardstock layers. When this layout eventually makes it into an album, I will cut a slit in the page protector where the hidden journaling/title is so that it can be easily flipped up and read. I copied the photos and shrunk quite a few of them down to wallet size so I could fit as many pics on this layout as humanly possible. lol!  I also used lots of Stickles (glitter glue) and sparkle on this layout and had a lot of fun with it.

Teacher's Gift - School Mini Album

Happy Wednesday Everyone! It sure is starting to finally feel like summer out there. It's 81 now and this weekend is supposed to be almost 90 degrees. We'll be taking the cover off of the pool before the weekend is over and gettin' it ready for summer. Woohoo! :)

Tomorrow is the last day of school here and I have been diligently working on a mini album for B.'s teacher. This is my 2nd mini album and I'm so happy with how it turned out. It has pics in it from all the different events and parties that have happened throughout this past school year. Since Miss C's  camera broke at the beginning of the school year, I'm sure she's gonna really appreciate this. I've been working on it every single day for about the past week and I spent all day Saturday especially - 12 hours in fact. But I got it done in time for B. to give to her tomorrow.....

This is a chunky 4-3/4" x 4-3/4" chipboard mini album made with the scallop square steel rule die from Sizzix and my Big Shot. I used the DCWV Grade School matstack throughout the album with a couple of patterned papers from the DCWV Dots, Stripes & Plaids stack for a little mini book inside the album and for some of the tags. The patterned paper on the front and back covers is from the 12x12 Grade School stack.  I inked the edges of the pages, photos, and tags with Black Soot distress ink. I also used lots of border punches and stamps throughout the mini for the pockets and tags. The Hello Kitty Greetings Cricut cartridge was used for the stack of books and apple on the front cover.

I made the 3x3 mini book out of a sheet of 12x12 cardstock-weight patterned paper and then used thin chipboard that I covered with a different patterned paper for the covers. It turned out really cool and holds a lot of pics. If I had left the tops or sides of the pages unglued, I could have put tags in there as well. Believe it or not, you could actually put about 20+ pics in this little mini book. I only put 10 in there and used some of the pages for journaling.

 

The pages are the perfect size for 2x3 photos. I use PhotoSheet (a free program you can download from www.phototility.com) to put four 2x3's or two 3x4's onto a 4x6 print. I love PhotoSheet and use it all the time for scrapbooking. And did I mention it's free?? The little mini album is held shut with some tied ribbon. Super cute! This would even make a great little brag book to carry in your purse. And they're so quick to make. I found the tutorial for it on YouTube.  It is held in place on the chipboard mini album page with some doily lace punched trim made with my Martha Stewart punch.

I made a waterfall page on the opposite page. Again, with the help of some tutorials on YouTube...

This is the coolest thing. You pull the ribbon at the bottom, and as you're pulling it, the pictures flip up to reveal another picture underneath and then a journaling tag is at the very end.

I used a chalkboard shank button and an elastic ponytail holder as the closure. The button is held in place on the inside front cover with a spiral paperclip that I attached a little charm to. I also made a little beaded jewelry  for the mini so-to-speak to hang from the bookring on the front of the mini with a couple little charms at the end...

 

My i-Rock rhinestone-setting tool from Imaginisce broke on me when I was making my last mini back in March. I called them and they sent me a new one. I hadn't opened the new one until last night to add some bling to the center of some punched butterflies on some photo tags. Well, guess what? This one broke on me too. The spring popped out of the button that you have to hold down to keep it turned on while using it. Same exact thing happened to my first i-Rock. So I called them this morning and they are sending me a new one. I hope this one doesn't end up breaking on me too. Third time's a charm.

Back in Time Heritage Layout

I hope you all are having a good week. It's rainy and a bit chilly here today. Had to turn the furnace on this morning to get rid of the chill. Crazy. School is winding down for the kids here and there's only eight days left including today. There were no snow days to make up this year for once. Yea! :)  The school is having a volunteer appreciation luncheon this afternoon which I am invited to. They've never done anything like that but I think it's really nice and thoughtful of them to do so.

I finished another heritage layout for my mother-in-law's album last night. These are pictures of her and two of her brothers taken back in the mid-1940's. Love that old car...

Moments in Time Heritage Layout

I hope you all are having a great weekend. The sun is shining, the birds are singin', got the windows open and I can hear the sounds of lawn mowers in the neighborhood. It sure is a beautiful Mother's Day today. :)

We spent the day at my cousin's wedding yesterday. He's 27 and the youngest of all my first cousins. Everyone looked fabulous and everything at the wedding was so beautiful. I'm glad I was able to be a part of their special day.

So needless to say I didn't get much scrapbooking done on National Scrapbooking Day yesterday. lol! I did, however, finish up another layout for the heritage album for my mother-in-law this afternoon. This one's of two my husband's uncles taken at different times during the 1940's...
