Today was a very emotionally draining day. B. has been sick again. When I picked her up from school on Friday, she was crying and said she had a headache and was getting the chills. She wouldn't tell the teachers about it for some reason and by the end of the school day she was absolutely miserable. She had a fever of like 102. And for the whole weekend she had the fever which we kept trying to keep down by giving her Children's Tylenol and Motrin. Sunday I started giving her Children's Mucinex because she had a lot of mucus she was spitting out. Plus it helped with the fever. I took her to the doctor first thing this morning and she has strep - again. She had just finished taking her last antibiotic for strep a little over a week ago and had just seen the doctor exactly one week ago. At that time she was having a problem with the mucus, but showed no signs of strep and the doctor said it was probably just a virus and to give her Mucinex if it got worse. Well it did get worse. And it wasn't just a virus. This is the third time B. has had strep throat in the past 8 weeks and this is the worse it's ever been. Not good. So the doctor says it's time for the tonsils to come out. He said it looks like her body is fighting the antibiotics and the bacteria is colonizing in her tonsils. Again, not good. Once we get everything set up through the insurance and the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, she will be having surgery to have her tonsils taken out. She has been so miserable. Besides having the fever all weekend (once the medicine(s) wore off each time), she hasn't been able to swallow. She lost 4 lbs. since Friday..... And then to top it off - after waiting two hours to have her prescription filled today - we get home and get ready to give B. her medicine and realize that the same exact antibiotic was prescribed that she just finished taking a week ago. So I call the doctor to make sure that this is indeed the correct medicine. Of course he's out to lunch and won't be back for 1-1/2 hours. In the meantime, B. has a fever, she's coughing and miserable. Good thing I called - because it wasn't Omnicef that he wanted to prescribe her again but rather Biaxin. Then I have to wait another 1-1/2 hours before it finally got filled at the pharmacy because we had to wait for them to receive it from the doctor's office through the e-machine or whatever it is or the fax. Ridiculous. Whatever happened to good old fashioned written prescriptions? I didn't get the first dose of it in her until almost 3:00. And this one she has to take 3 times a day. And to top off all of that, I had to fight to get my money back for the first or wrong prescription or have it applied toward the correct one. Unbelievable and what a complete nightmare. Hopefully, things will get much better once the tonsils are out. And, hopefully, we won't run into anymore problems like today and the last time (pharmacy being out of medicine).
I got an e-mail from my brother today with an update on the twins. They are both doing well and gaining weight. They are 26 days old and would be at 35 weeks + 1 day if they were still in the womb.....

The boys were off of oxygen last Sunday and remain off the oxygen. They still have the feeding tubes which run up their nose and down their throat. The feeding tube, or NG, as they are called will stay in until the boys can take all feedings from the bottle. Philip is bottle fed 3-4 times a day and he usually finishes at least one bottle. Michael is being bottle fed 1-2 times a day. They stopped giving caffeine 2 days ago. The boys seem to be doing well. They have an occasional "spell" where the oxygen saturation in their blood drops below 85%. This usually happens while they are bottle feeding because they haven't mastered the suck, swallow, breathe coordination yet. They also sometimes have "spells" after they eat. Philip is up to 51mL per feeding, or 408mL per day (about 14 oz.). Michael is up to 29mL per feeding, or 232mL per day (about 8 oz.). Philip now weighs 2,645g (5 lbs, 13.3 oz.), an increase of 196g (6.9 oz.), which is a 7.4% gain, compared to last Sunday. Michael now weighs 1,438g (3lbs, 2.7 oz.), an increase of 213g (7.5 oz.), which is an increase of 14.8% They're both producing some hefty diapers.
This is wonderful news. I am soooo glad they are both doing so well and can't wait til the day I can actually meet and hold each of them. That won't be for a long while yet though.
